Bakari G. Lee is a member of McManimon, Scotland & Baumann, LLC. Mr. Lee’s primary practice area is public finance, having served as bond counsel to multiple clients at the state, county and local level, as well as providing underwriter and trustee counsel services. Mr. Lee also provides special counsel services for affordable housing transactions, involving low and moderate income housing tax credits and other federal programs including the Rental Assistance Demonstration program, for public housing agencies and private developers alike. In addition, Mr. Lee provides general counsel services to public and private entities involving a wide array of issues. Mr. Lee has represented various clients in redevelopment matters as well.
Mr. Lee is an active advocate for education. In May 2006, Mr. Lee was appointed by the Hudson County Board of Chosen Freeholders to the Board of Trustees for Hudson County Community College and currently serves as Vice Chair, Chair of the Finance Committee, on the Capital Project Advisory Committee and as the trustee liaison for Commencement. Nationally, Mr. Lee serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT). Mr. Lee is also the Immediate Past Chairman of the New Jersey Council of County Colleges (NJCCC), serves on its Executive Committee and as a Trustee Ambassador. In 2016 Mr. Lee gave the commencement speech for Bergen Community College at MetLife Stadium, and he previously gave the commencement speech at Atlantic Cape Community College where he was also awarded an honorary Associate of Arts degree by the college for his work in the community college sector. Mr. Lee will give the commencement speech at Warren County Community College this year.
Prior to joining McManimon, Scotland & Baumann, LLC in August 2003, Mr. Lee was a law clerk for the Honorable Darryl Dean Donohue of the Territorial Court of the Virgin Islands – St. Croix Division. Prior to joining the Territorial Court, Mr. Lee was a Senior Financial Analyst in the Animal Health Division of Pfizer, Inc. in positions of increasing responsibility, ultimately supporting the division’s business development and strategic planning initiatives.
Mr. Lee received his Juris Doctor from the Rutgers University School of Law – Newark in 2000 and graduated from Florida A&M University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a Finance concentration. He was admitted to the practice of law in the State of New Jersey and the United States District Court of New Jersey in 2004, and in the State of New York in 2007.
Mr. Lee is active in several social and civic organizations. He is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, and a Past Basileus (President) of the Jersey City Chapter. Mr. Lee is also a member of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity where he serves as the northern New Jersey Social Action Chair. Mr. Lee is also the Volunteer Program Administrator for the Morristown Neighborhood House Rites of Passage Program. Mr. Lee has been named as a Super Lawyers Magazine Rising Star for several years. Mr. Lee is also the proud recipient of the 2015 Boy Scouts of America Whitney M. Young Service Award.
