Court Clears Path for Carteret's Downtown Waterfront Expansion
The New Jersey Supreme Court has cleared the way for a long-awaited infrastructure initiative that will connect the Borough of Carteret’s growing downtown and arts district to its expanding waterfront, which includes a park, marina, and upcoming ferry service.
The path forward for this project hasn’t been straightforward. A major residential developer challenged the work, arguing the Carteret Avenue extension was unnecessary and would disrupt nearby properties.
After multiple rounds in trial and appellate courts, however, the Supreme Court denied the final appeal. It affirmed that the Borough’s easement acquisition met public use standards and complied with road design requirements.
This project has been years in the making, and thanks to the efforts of Kevin McManimon and Malcolm Thorpe, the Borough is turning vision into reality and building a more accessible future for its community.
