Jersey City Breaks Ground on a More Inclusive Waterfront

After years of advocacy by residents, local leaders, and community groups, Mayor Fulop, the Jersey City Council and the Bayfront Advisory Board, Jersey City recently broke ground on the first mixed use development in the Bayfront Redevelopment Area.

Once a contaminated industrial area along the Hackensack River, the remediated Bayfront Redevelopment Area will be developed in multiple phases. This first development will offer 210 rental units of which 80% will be affordable or workforce housing for low- to moderate-income families.

The projects in this area will help serve Jersey City families in need of affordable housing who were previously priced out of other parts of Jersey City’s housing market. The green spaces and flood protections provided in this project, and in the Bayfront Redevelopment Area, will serve to future-proof the City, and this first development will provide 10,000 square feet of shared space to bring neighbors together for work and play.

This project, and the others that will follow in the Bayfront area, will provide many new jobs in the City. MS&B is proud to serve as counsel to the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency in connection with the development of the entire Bayfront Redevelopment Area.
