NJCU-Kean University Merger Agreement Approved
The New Jersey City University Board of Trustees has unanimously approved the definitive partnership agreement with Kean University, a binding merger agreement that will move this historic consolidation forward.
This is New Jersey's first major public university consolidation in decades.
This approval represents significant progress since both universities signed the letter of intent in May. MS&B's Joseph Baumann, Ashton Hartline and paralegal, Jen Davila, have guided NJCU through every stage as lead counsel, from negotiating the initial framework to reaching this milestone.
The partnership preserves NJCU's mission while expanding affordable, high-quality education for first-generation and underserved students as Kean Jersey City. Agreements like this take time, collaboration, and careful attention to ensure both institutions—and the students they serve—come out stronger.
