Biography
Rafiq focuses his practice on Redevelopment Law, Affordable Housing and Land Use.
A proud product of the City of Newark, Rafiq has dedicated his career to advancing community-centered development. His work spans housing redevelopment, revitalizing critical infrastructure, improving schools and advising local governments on strategic neighborhood planning.
Before joining the firm, Rafiq served in the City of Newark’s Law Department, where he worked on a broad span of economic development initiatives. He then built on that foundation at a mid-sized law firm, gaining valuable experience and insights into Redevelopment and Land Use Law, assisting with commercial real estate transactions and the creation of affordable housing in distressed communities.
Rafiq is a frequent lecturer on subjects such as Redevelopment, Tax Abatements and Land Use. He has also guest lectured at his alma mater, the Rutgers-Newark School of Law, where he earned his J.D. in 2015. Rafiq holds a Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, from Rutgers University in New Brunswick and was a member of the Delta Epsilon Iota Academic Honors Society.
Outside of the office, Rafiq enjoys golfing and hiking but his passion lies in mentoring others.
