Biography
Sari B. Placona concentrates her practice in the areas of corporate restructuring, bankruptcy, debtor/creditor rights, assignments for the benefit of creditors, and commercial litigation. She represents Chapter 11 and 7 debtors, trustees, receivers, assignees, and creditors. She prosecutes and defends preference and fraudulent conveyance complaints.
While earning her Juris Doctorate from Rutgers School of Law-Newark in 2014, Sari worked as a paralegal for over eight years at Walder Hayden, P.A. As a law student, Sari served as a Member and Editor of the Women’s Rights Law Reporter. She also received the Eric R. Neisser Pro Bono Program Certificate for her completion of Pro Bono services. Sari served as a court advocate for victims of domestic violence and the Newark Bankruptcy Pro Bono Project.
Sari served as a law clerk to the Honorable Ned M. Rosenberg, J.S.C., Retired, in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Essex Vicinage, Civil Division, during the 2014-2015 court term.
Sari lectured for the New Jersey State Bar Association Annual Meeting, New York Institute of Credit Virtual Credit Smorgasbord, Essex County Bar Association, Turnaround Management Association, and Annual William H. Gindin Bankruptcy Bench-Bar Conference.
She recently served as the Vice Chair Bench Bar Committee for the Annual William H. Gindin Bankruptcy Bench-Bar Conference sponsored by the Association of Federal Bar of New Jersey for the 2021 conference. She organized the 2022 and 2023 conferences.
Sari continues to represent clients’ pro bono and serves as a junior advisory board member for Partners for Women and Justice, a non-profit organization that provides free legal assistance to low income, victims of domestic violence.
Sari has been a board member for New Jersey’s International Women’s Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation (“IWIRC-NJ”) – New Jersey since 2018. She is currently the Co-Chair of IWIRC-NJ.
Sari is on the Executive Board for New Jersey’s Turn Around Management Association (“NJ TMA”) - Network of Women. She was previously the Co-Chair of NJ TMA- Network of Women. Sari served as a member for the Turnaround Management Association Global Marketing Committee.
In 2021, Sari was appointed by Chief Justice Stuart Rabner to serve for the Supreme Court of New Jersey, District Ethics Committee, Essex County, District VA.
Chambers USA: America’s Leading Business Lawyers Client’s Guide has ranked Sari as “Up and Coming” in the New Jersey bankruptcy / restructuring market for 2022 and 2023.
Sari was recently named to Best Lawyers: "Ones to Watch" list for Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law.
